Biography

Jesse Cromwell joined the McCathern Dallas office as an associate attorney in 2017 and became a partner at the firm in 2021. Jesse has a strong understanding of many legal practices, including business and commercial litigation, fiduciary litigation, professional liability, construction, employment, personal injury, and appellate law.  He has represented plaintiffs and has handled defense work, giving him valuable perspective on both sides of a dispute.  Early in his career his advocacy skills were honed from time in the courtroom arguing motions and trying cases.  In fact, his first day on the job as an attorney was at trial on a breach of contract and breach of warranty claim.  He has tried cases involving:

  • Breach of Contract
  • Breach of Fiduciary Duty
  • Conspiracy
  • Fraud
  • Tortious Interference with Business Relationships/Contracts
  • Medical Malpractice
  • Misappropriation of Trade Secrets
  • Personal Injury

Jesse is Board Certified® in Construction Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also a Fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America (CLSA), an invitation-only association of top construction attorneys from around the world, and he is a member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM).

In recognition of his excellent reputation, Jesse was selected by his peers to the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch lists for Litigation: Construction Litigation and the 2024 list for Commercial Litigation. He was also named to D Magazine’s Best Lawyers Under 40 for Business/Commercial Litigation from 2021 through 2024. In 2023 and 2024, he was named to the Super Lawyers: Texas Rising Stars list for Construction Litigation.

In addition to experience at the trial court level, Jesse has managed several appeals including the reversal of a $600,000 award of lost profits and the lifting of a permanent injunction against his client.  Jesse also successfully appealed a trial court’s granting of summary judgment against his client’s claim for wrongful termination following the filing of worker’s compensation claim, resulting in reversal and remand in favor of his client and eventual settlement to the client’s satisfaction.  Jesse has also handled petitions for writ of mandamus as well as other various appellate motions for his clients.

Jesse obtained his law degree from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2011. While in school, Jesse was involved in numerous campus activities such as the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition and the SMU Small Business Clinic. He was also the Articles Editor for the SMU Science and Technology Law Review and volunteered teaching 5th grade students the judicial system. During his summers, Jesse worked as an extern for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Texas. Before law school, Jesse obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with Business Foundations from the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated with high honors and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society as well as the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity where he was involved in several community service projects.

Jesse is admitted to the State Bar of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas.  When not practicing law, Jesse likes to attend University of Texas football games and go camping, hiking, and skiing.
