McCathern is thrilled to announce that partner Carl Evans, Jr. recently became a registered recipient of the Million Dollar Trial Lawyers Association™ Award. Mr. Evans was honored with this award for achieving a settlement of more than $1 million.
The settlement came after the plaintiff, Mr. Evans’ client, purchased a piece of artwork that was alleged to have been on the cover of a highly regarded magazine. Leading up to the sale, it was confirmed both orally and in writing that the painting had been featured on the cover of the respected magazine 100 years prior to the purchase. The representations led Mr. Evans’ client to purchase the piece as the prominence of the magazine added to the painting’s value. After the sale, it was determined that the painting had never been on the cover of the magazine and that the defendant had used “deceptive and intentional misrepresentations to inflate the value of the painting.” The plaintiff would not have purchased the painting if he had known it had not been on the magazine’s cover.
