Biography
Tarig Anani is a Partner in McCathern’s Dallas office and is the head of the firm’s Corporate Services practice. Tarig joined the firm in early 2023, bringing over 30 years of experience in this specific practice area.
Tarig is very experienced acting as outside General Counsel for small and medium-sized businesses, particularly in the software and SAAS industries, where intellectual property matters, consulting agreements, licensing agreements, and international contracts are pervasive.
In addition, Tarig has provided due diligence for private equity firms prior to acquisitions and has also acted as CEO for firms following such acquisitions, which gives him deep understanding of the various levels of involvement required of parties in different types of mergers and acquisitions.
Tarig has extensive experience counseling U.S. businesses seeking to do business in the Middle East and vice versa. He is fluent in Arabic.
Tarig started his legal career with the New York law firm of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle as an attorney in their corporate department, where he focused on cross-border M&A and corporate compliance.
After leaving Curtis, Tarig joined the German software company SAP to become Vice President & General Counsel of SAP Middle East, covering a 19-country region. While at SAP, Tarig negotiated dozens of software license and implementation agreements, including one of SAP’s largest deals ever, the licensing and implementation of SAP R/3 and later mySAP.com for Aramco – the world’s largest oil & gas firm.
After SAP, Tarig joined the Denver and Houston-based oil & gas software firm of P2 Energy Solutions, Inc. as its General Counsel. While at P2, Tarig led the growth of the company through mergers and acquisitions including the acquisitions of Oracle Energy Upstream from Novistar, Inc., the acquisition of the Canadian software company QByte from IBM, the acquisition of Tobin Maps out of San Antonio, and the acquisition of Tristone Energy Partners, a Canadian Oil & Gas boutique investment bank. Tarig then led the sale of P2 to Vista Equity Partners in 2008 and then ran his own firm, Anani Law Firm, until joining McCathern.
Prior to practicing law, Tarig earned a BA in political science and then a JD from The University of Houston. While in law school, Tarig began working on his MBA at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, with a focus on international business and finance. After completing his MBA, Tarig earned a Master of the Science of Law (JSM) degree at Stanford Law School, where he was a founding member of the Stanford Journal of Law, Business & Finance and was a member of the Stanford International Law Society.
Tarig is licensed to practice law in Texas, California, New York, Washington D.C. and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
