Sarah E. Courtney joined McCathern, Shokouhi, Evans as an Associate in 2024 and assists clients on a variety of matters including Business & Commercial Litigation and Personal Injury.
Sarah earned her J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2024, where she graduated cum laude with a concentration in Business Law, and also obtained her Master’s in Sports Management through Tech Law’s dual-degree program. Prior to law school, Sarah graduated from Louisiana State University in 2021, where she not only excelled academically but also made significant contributions to campus life. She was a member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society, The Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, and The National Society of Leadership and Success. Sarah placed on the Dean’s List and President’s Honor Roll every semester she was eligible, reflecting her commitment to excellence and leadership.
Throughout her legal education, Sarah distinguished herself with numerous accolades, including earning the Top-Grade Award for Highest Score in Legal Practice II, and the Distinction Award for Second Highest Score in Academic Legal Writing. Sarah was also a member of the Texas Tech Law Review, where she served as a Staff Editor for Volume 55, and as an Articles Editor for Volume 56. In
addition, Sarah served as the Clerk for Tech Law’s chapter of the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society. She also joined Tech Law’s American Inn of Court chapter as a Pupil during her 3L year.
While at Tech Law, Sarah participated in Tech Law’s Excellence in Legal Research Program, and also served as a Legal Practice Teaching fellow for two years. She served as a brief writer for two Moot Court Competitions. She was also a member of Tech Law’s Client Counseling Team and was crowned Regional Champion alongside her partner at the Spring 2023 ABA Client Counseling Competition.
Sarah’s practical experience includes a summer clerkship at McCathern, Shokouhi, Evans, where she found her passion for a diverse range of cases and a supportive work environment. Additionally, Sarah has interned for Judge Martin Hoffman of the 68th Civil District Court in Dallas, Texas. She worked as a legal assistant at Shoenfelt Law Firm in Baton Rouge, and she gained valuable insights when she
participated in a summer clerkship with Cobb Martinez Woodward, specializing in insurance defense.
Having recently passed the July 2024 bar exam, Sarah is eager to begin her legal career. What she enjoys most about being a lawyer is the opportunity to help others, a calling that she feels deeply connected to. Known for her punctuality, strong work ethic, and meticulous attention to detail, Sarah is relentless in her pursuit of justice, embodying the principle that no challenge is insurmountable.
Outside of her professional life, Sarah enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. She believes in maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life, which fuels her passion for the law and her commitment to her clients. With a bright future ahead, Sarah is excited to contribute to the legal field and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those she serves.
