McCathern Media & Entertainment attorney Adam Mehr of the firm’s Los Angeles office has negotiated an international movie deal on behalf of his client, the Seoul, Korea-based CJ Entertainment. The project was unveiled by CJ Entertainment and the production company Square Peg on Thursday, May 7, garnering attention in the entertainment media.

The Korean 2003 hit sci-fi film Save the Green Planet! will be remade in English by Jang Joon-hwan, who directed the original version, from a script by Succession writer Will Tracy. CJ Entertainment earned extensive attention in 2019 after its hit film Parasite won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes festival and four Oscars at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

McCathern partner Adam Mehr, leader of the McCathern Media & Entertainment section, again leveraged his extensive industry experience while completing the deal. Over his career Adam has assisted many clients with successfully completing the financing, development, licensing, and production of a multitude of media projects, including international ones such as this. His work with CJ Entertainment has also extended to TV projects with its subsidiary Studio Dragon.

CJ Entertainment and Adam are working on a wide slate of additional projects that he expects will be announced in the near future.
