Biography
Preston J. Tyson joined McCathern’s Dallas office in 2022 as an Associate Attorney and is already making an immediate impact on behalf of the firm’s clients across many practice areas. Preston has assisted in legal matters involving Business & Commercial Litigation, Construction Litigation, Insurance Litigation, Real Estate Litigation, Personal Injury, and Restaurant & Hospitality.
Preston joined McCathern after earning his J.D. from the SMU Dedman School of Law, where he was particularly focused on real estate law. He was a member of the Black Law Students Association (BSLA) and the Non-Traditional Law Students Association. He also participated in the COVID-19 Legal Helpline, which offered North Texas residents free legal assistance with the multitude of matters that arose during the pandemic.
While in law school, Preston clerked for Judge Reed O’Connor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas and then for Judge Michelle V. Larson of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Prior to earning his J.D., Preston studied at the University of Arkansas for three years before transferring to the University of North Texas, where he graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology.
Preston is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and the J.L. Turner Legal Association (JLTLA), an African American bar association based in Dallas that provides mentorship and scholarships for law students and conducts community outreach programs.
Preston resides in Dallas with his wife and daughter. When not practicing law, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, rock climbing, and fly-fishing.
