In a groundbreaking move, McCathern recently added experienced entertainment attorney Adam R. Mehr to its Los Angeles office and launched a Media & Entertainment Law practice to its long list of legal specialties.

Adam joins McCathern as a partner and brings over two decades of industry experience working with a wide variety of entertainment and media clients. Adam’s clients range from small, independent production companies to major motion picture studios and digital platforms. He has handled every aspect of the acquisition, financing, development, production, licensing, distribution, and other uses of media content.

Adam began his career at New Line Cinema, working on such pictures as Austin Powers, Rush Hour and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, before joining the online group at Warner Bros. where he handled live concerts and webisodes, Hunt Lowry’s film and sales company at Warner Bros. and then ultimately the independent production company, Gold Circle Entertainment (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Pitch Perfect) where he served as the General Counsel and Head of Business Affairs for nearly 10 years.

In addition to Gold Circle, Adam’s clients include Oscar winner CJ Entertainment (‘Parasite’), video game company PUBG (“Player Unknowns Battlegrounds”), start-up company SunMoon Entertainment, and VFX supervisor Joe Bauer (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Mandalorian’).

Outside of film content Adam has substantial experience with television, video games, music, publishing, online, and new media projects and with additional services including corporate guidance, business planning, and celebrity licensing and branding. This wide array of specialties allows Adam to assist his clients through the entire creative process of a project and to help them fully develop their media and entertainment business or career.

“McCathern presented a unique opportunity for me, both to broaden the firm’s expertise in the L.A. marketplace and to provide my clients with the very tailored and personal service they have grown accustomed to and which often meets competing demands in a Big Law setting,” Adam said. “McCathern’s collaborative and no-nonsense approach positions it well to stay ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving and dynamic entertainment space. I’m delighted to join such a wonderful team.”

McCathern’s leaders are also excited about the addition of Adam and the Media & Entertainment practice to the firm. “I worked with Adam on a complex, entertainment litigation matter years ago and seeing Adam’s professionalism, legal knowledge, and care for clients made it abundantly clear he would be a great partner and fit at McCathern,” said Managing Partner Arnold Shokouhi. “We are lucky to have him be a part of our firm as both an individual and legal advocate.”
